I like to look at the bookies prices for Arsenal’s rumoured transfer targets (?) now and again, and as I haven’t looked at the betting recently I thought it was time for an update, so here we go.
Everyone seems to assume that Wenger is going to sign either Christopher Samba or Gary Cahill, but according to the bookies Arsenal are still hot favourites for both! Samba is the shortest price at 2/7, while Cahill is just a little behind at 2/5. So at least the bookies seem pretty sure Arsenal are going to sign a centre-back, even if the fans don’t seem to be very sure at all any more!
One price that is now missing is the next club for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Arsenal were once quoted as 1/10 hot favourites but now they have even removed the bet from the market. That either means that a deal is known to be in place, or the bookies don’t think he is going to leave Southampton after all……
Surprisingly enough, Arsenal are also favourites to sign the Newcastle defender Jose Enrique at 4/6, which may seem like a good price when you remember he said he wanted to sign for a Champions League team, but as Wenger said he wanted Gibbs and Traore to cover that position, I wouldn’t have a bet on that one….
The prices for Arsenal to nab other rumoured targets are as follows; Leighton Baines @ 6/1; Scott Dann @ 4/1 and Scott Parker @ 33/1, so there is not much confidence in any of those, especially Parker who would probably be my favoured option…..
Now what about the latest Premier League betting? Not surprisingly Man United are generally favourites at 7/4 with Chelsea second best around 5/2. Manchester City are now priced between 3/1 and 4/1 depending on the bookie, but there is little confidence in Arsenal (as usual!) and they can backed from 7/1 with BetFred and as high as 9/1 with most firms.
Liverpool are only slightly behind at 10/1 with everyone, but the good news is Tottenham are between 40/1 and 50/1 (Should be 500/1….)
One last thing I would like to mention is that Cesc Fabregas is 1/2 on to join Barcelona, and Samir Nasri is a very short 1/5 on to join Man City. That means the bookies think Nasri is twice as likely to leave as Gary Cahill is to arrive at Arsenal! Do they know something we don’t?
