Wenger - Arsenal fans have been fantastic

Arsène Wenger has thanked Arsenal's fans for their "fantastic" support this season.

A campaign full of promise has not realised a trophy following a near-miss in the Carling Cup and a strong challenge in three other competitions. Nonetheless the Arsenal supporters have flocked to Emirates Stadium to show their support for Wenger and his players.

The Frenchman is grateful for that and paid tribute to the fans ahead of the final home game of the season against Aston Villa.

"I believe that the fans have been fantastic and they have supported the team," he told Arsenal.com. "We want to wish them well for the break period, thank them for their support for the whole season and hope to see them behind the team soon.

"I feel they can be proud of this team and of the Club, even if we couldn’t deliver the silverware that we wanted to deliver this season. Anybody who follows the Club, I believe, can be proud of the Club.

"Trust this team first. I believe we have worked well, we had a very good young team out against Manchester United and looked convincing in our display. Trust this team and trust us to add what is needed."
