The Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie scored yet another goal for the Gunners in the disappointing 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday to bring his tally up to a respectable 21 for the season. A brilliant figure when you consider that he only played 25 games fom the start (with seven games as substitute), but the team still dropped tamely away from challenging for the Premier League title.
Van Persie couldn’t pinpoint exactly the reasons for the teams plummeting form after the Carling Cup defeat, but he is hoping that Arsenal can improve again next season.
He said: “There were lots of things which went wrong – we were not consistent enough. It is difficult to talk about it now,”
“It is going to be difficult to finish third, but we still have one game and have to win that to at least give us a chance.
“Next season we have to try to come back stronger. Everyone starts from scratch and we have a chance, it is up to us to prove it.”
The Dutchman heard the Arsenal fans booing at the end of the Aston Villa game, but he had nothing but praise for them. He said: “The supporters have been great, every single game they have been supporting us tremendously and I am really proud to be a Gunner with them as our fans.”
Robin is definitely a loyal player, and personally I can’t remember him ever complaining about anything. I have a feeling he will end his career at Arsenal
